It's Totally Legal For Women To Walk Around Topless In Times Square—And These Women Are Making A Killing Doing It
There’s no law making it illegal to be topless in the streets of Manhattan. Crazy, right? Well, there is a group of women making a living by strutting around topless in Times Square. Many people are concerned that the loophole in the law will greatly damage tourist revenue.
Pushing Tourists Away
The women, being referred to as topless performers, strut around in Times Square, wearing only body paint. Elected officials are now trying to get the women special zoning so that they don’t push tourist dollars out of town.
Jobs For Manhattan?
While it may be pushing tourist dollars away, the performers are generating a decent amount of money. Body painters, directors and the performers themselves are all getting cuts of what the ladies make during the day.
Only $90 A Day
The ladies work 12-hour days, usually with no lunch. The body painters? Well, they make about $300 for eight to 10 hours, which is about 40 percent. Their “directors” take an additional 30 percent, which leaves about $90 each for the women walking around nude all day.
