I know what you're going through. My wife hid her initial diagnosis of a weakened heart from us for several years, but just after Thanksgiving of last year, she couldn't catch her breath, so we rushed her to the hospital where she was treated for Congestive Heart Failure complicated with Emphysema. She came home just before Christmas. The doctors told me there was no cure, but treatment would slow the progression. Over the next 6 months, she was in and out of the hospital for 65 days, but she got worse every day. On July 22nd, she worked all day remotely (I couldn't get her to resign). At 5pm, she said she felt tired and wanted to lay down. My son and I helped her to her bed, but after a minute of laying down, she was having difficulty breathing. I called 911, and since we live a quarter mile from a Rescue Squad garage, the EMTs got to the house while I was still on the phone with the police, but when they checked, she had no pulse. They worked on her for an hour, then called in the Paramedics from the hospital which is right down the road. They came and also worked on her for an hour, but nothing worked. Every time they paused, her heart would beat once and stop.
We had been told this would be the outcome, and we were somewhat prepared, but it was still hard. What made it a little easier to deal with is that both my adult children live here. I don't know what it would have been like without their support. It takes time, and it takes support from family and friends. You will never 'get over it', but you will come to accept and deal with it, Peace, Bro.
