The End of Caricatures
22-Feb-25 13:25
The most recent broadcast of Saturday Night Live (American comedy show) had Tom Hanks portraying a stereotype caricature of a Trump voter. What is before us is not only how incorrect that said portrayal was but are we at a moment in human history of ending such caricatures?
How would everyone react to say, Don Cheadle playing a "black homey G" from the Ghetto and doing so in order to be derisive in the portrayal?
What about Carlos Mencia portraying a "WOP that brings a knife to a gunfight?"
The list is endless but I would argue that as a species, irrespective of nationality/ethnicity/sex/so forth that we should end the caricature nonsense and recognize it for the divisive nature that it really is: a promotion of raw and unchecked bigotry designed to create trouble and nothing else.
