I want to teach english.
My plan before I met my girlfriend was to go overseas to thailand or colombia and teach english as a second language to people in those respective countries.

I am still very interested in doing that but, due to having a girlfriend I will be staying in america. Anyone have any advice on this?

I mean I guess I could go the ESL route and teach in a school district but I have no interest in being a "regular" teacher, I just want to teach english language skills.

Or I could teach at a specific language school but I heard those are hard to break into job wise... any other ideas?

Perhaps put ads about private home visits and to state American English.

I post, a LOT
ESL would be the best route to take Ty...and seeing the number of non-English speaking students in public schools now, you're almost guaranteed a job.

Yeah Ty............if you stay in the states you could teach English as a second language.

Teach Spanish as a first language and your guaranteed a job. wink

Just getting started
If you're wanting to work in a reputable language school, you really need the CELTA qualification. You can do this at a local college over a few months, or you can go on a 4 week intensive course.

A really good website for jobs and advice is TEFL.com . I would highly recommend it - when I was a TEFL teacher i got quite a few jobs through them
