Dodge Hemi
I've always had Dodge trucks with the small V8. I just got a new Ram 1500 with Hemi. Man is that ever fast! When I punch it at about 45 mph, I'm doing 70 in a couple seconds. It's a heel of an engine.
When cruising on a level road at about 55, my mileage is in the lower 20's. That's pretty damn good.

I have much respect for the new Hemi's. I'm a die-hard Ford man, but I so want a new Challenger R/T drool


If I ever get a new truck, it'll probably be a Ram. Never liked Chevys and was disappointed when Ford dropped the 7.3 diesel from the lineup...so it'd have to be a 2500 Ram with a Cummins thumbup1

All new cars /trucks are fast, its really amazing/ridiculous how much power they all make now, hemi or no hemi.
Speaking seperately about the term hemi though, I always found it funny how many car companies make or have made a "hemi" engine, but somehow people always associate it as a Dodge thing only

Its interesting that they could even do that though. Sort of like Ford coppyrighting the name V8 because they used to put a V8 emblem on you know ?
Well Mopar certainly did make the term famous alright, I just wonder how many other people out there who are driving "hemi" engines cars even know they have one.

WazRunt,is that a pic of a 03-04 4.6L Terminator motor?Or perhaps a Shelby GT 500 motor?I don't think it is a 427 SOHC motor as it has dual overhead cams,also the water pump looks like a mod motor

Yes ! When my customer first bought that car, he showed up with it and I asked him how it was ? He said "eh dunno, not that great" "You try it". I took him out for the ride of his life. That car was spectacularly fun to drive. I drove it a lime rock for him a few times.

Fords 427 SOHC Hemi was the most potent production motor ever created. So much so infact, that both gm and dodge bitch and whined and had NASCAR change the rules so ford could no longer run it.

It ended up becoming the motor they used in NHRA ... And of course .. It's the very motor that ate those Ferraris alive in the GT40 at LeMans.

Without having googled that I think I may have to argue.

The term "production engine " and use in NHRA.

I didnt think the cammer engine ever made it in to a production car.
Didnt recall GT 40 using that engine either.

When I think of NHRA I think of Chrysler hemi for top fuel, and BBC with pontic for pro stock.

Could be though, as I say I didnt check you, just going from what my memory tells. Then again my memory isnt what it used to be.

If you google "Ford 427 sohc" you can find all the info.

It's a bit lengthy to post all details here... Basically the rules of NASCAR in the 60's was the motors must be in a minimum of 500 production cars. Ford offered this motor as an option for the galaxies, fairlanes and even the mustang. This was also the motor used in the GT40's as well as the 427 AC cobras. The motor did take on various forms however, depending on year and it's intended application.

The first argument in NASCAR was that ford was running highrisers on their race motor that tech. Wouldn't fit under stock hoods of galaxies .. They did change it to a lowriser .. But NASCAR decided to ban that motor to. The bs thing is that Dodge and Plymouth was running their 426 hemi .. And it hadn't ever been place in a production car until 1965.

I think something is wrong with your info then. They never used the OHC engine in a 427 AC/Cobra.

The GT40s I saw did not have it either.

LR You do know that when something says it has a 427 side oiler that is not neccessarily, and not likey an ohc engine right ?

From what I remember the 427 ohc had reliability issues.
