Discussion on addition of advertising to the site.
Hi All,

I just wanted to make a statement about the new ads we are running. I have a few things to say so I will do it in bullet form.

* Not a light-hearted Move - We have run ad pretty much ad-free for over 10 years so we didn't make the decision to run these ads lightly.

* Market has changed - The market has significantly changed, with the global recession and competition from other niches like Facebook and YouTube pushing our premium member volume and revenue down.

* To Everyone's benefit - With less revenue we have had to carefully balance spending on fresh traffic to the site along with rolling out new infrastructure and development. Costs have been increasing for advertising in the adult industry (for us to buy traffic), and having these ads will mean we can offset the lower revenues and invest more in the site and its growth.

* Premiums don't see them - while it isn't our aim to make you go so crazy with seeing the ads that you are compelled to go premium - there is no denying it is now an added benefit to going premium!

* Ad Quality - We are testing this ad network, so as we work with our advertising partner we will be able to improve the quality of ads.

* Don't Try Hide Them - In these early days we need to have good results from our ads, so that we can attract more premium ads not just the bottom of the barrel ones like you are seeing now. Please click the ads, look at what they are offering so that we are showing good results. Trying to hide the ads only hurts us and therefore your NN experience.

*Click the ads - As I said above, the quality of the ads we see in future will be driven by the performance they show in these early days. Please, click a few of the ads and review what they are offering.

* Removing them with Nudles - We are considering offering the option to remove the ads with a Nudle Payment

Please, understand that this was a necessary step to take and one we didn't take lightly. We are working hard to always improve this place and we have a large update which will be revealed soon. We are investing in better network infrastructure too to make sure the site preforms better (noticed faster vids lately?)and we have more drive than ever to keep this site the #1 adult community on the net.

We have oh-so-many new features we want to roll out, and with the help of the additional revenue from advertising, we will hopefully be able to increase our resources to be able to implement all the things we have in the pipeline that we know will make this an even better place than it has been for the last 10 years.

I look forward to your views and discussing them here.

NN

You are running a business not a charity. Funds must come in to keep the site open.

A major move indeed.
As these ads are on SFW as well, that just about cancels out that previous project.
As I'm sure you know, I would like to boost interest in the forums.
And I want the member bashing and trolling to be replaced by something better.
I guess you know what I'm going to say.

Porn/Nudity pics allowed in forum.
(outsite web pics/gifs, not yours)

That should improve the place and reward you with more premium members.

Raven, we can't allow porn pics like that in the forum. Sorry.

Re the SFW site, yes I am aware of that and am just sourcing some non pornographic ads for that version of the site.

Premiums do see them, but only at the login screen, and even then I was like WTF? I did not see all of what was intended to be seen, as it was grayed out.

I will explain; that program/addon takes out google advertising, on many and various pages, and removes those very fukn annoying ads from youtube, as well as user defined parts of any website, I personally LOATH google advertising, you NN get tagged/blocked automatically by what code covers whatever I have assigned a tag to.

I thank you for the green shield code that removes this from the screen, when I log in, it is much like the no junk mail sticker on my mail box, I loath junk mail, NO amount of coercion will convince me to buy, I buy what I want, when I want, when I can afford it.

I full well understand, advertising works, sells, and money is to be made by advertising, and by renting/selling advertising space.

I can see both side of the coin here, from mine and yours.

Thank you for your side of the coin.

Too intrusive
I appreciate that you have to raise revenue to support the site, but do they need to be so intrusive?
When I logged on for the first time to day and saw them I thought they were a bit much. Could they be reduced in size so as not to be so in your face?

Unfortunately, the size is dictated by the market place, and that size 300x250 has become the de-facto standard.

As I mentioned, the quality of them will improve as the advertising marketplace becomes aware they can advertise here on NN. When we have more people bidding for the ad spaces, we will be able to be choosy about who advertises here and what the ads look like.

So clicking on the ads will help show the marketplace we are a good place to advertise, and we'll then have more choice.

At the moment, we have no advertisers, so the ads you see are the default baseline ads for the network we are using.

I hope that helps your understanding.

Bottomline is - clicking the ads will help us to be able to moderate tehm so they are a better fit for this place!

Exactly!! Too many for too long, have coasted along with only the reduced benefit of those who pay to keep the site running. I said long ago to limit further, the features available to 'freebie' accounts. If you make the choice to not pay, then don't complain about what you can't do or have to put up with!

And before you get on your high horses.......Yes, we've been premium and when it expired it wasn't renewed for at least a few weeks before renewing it again!

No, premium might not be affordable to all, including those that have it but it's a choice you make one way or the other.

Those that like the site will go premium, those that don't never had any intention too and will complain no matter what is offered, that they are hard done by. Suck it up.

Well done on the improvements of late NN!!

Thanks for being so general in your statement. I'm glad that many of us need to "suck it up". Premium is not a choice for me.....Eating is a must, rent, shelter, etc is a must. There is not enough in the funds for a "choice" on what is now a "fuck me fuck me" site. I've had premium when I could afford it.......wasn't much to it.......someone gave me premium once.......but I felt guilty if I didn't use it all the time.........so again thank you for your generalization.

And NN......it is sending the wrong message.......while I see the need for revenue......and while I know coca cola or football groups won't advertise on a porn site........these ads are disgusting and demeaning. I will not be a part of it, nor do I want to see it when I log on to read friends blogs. Friends and I will just have to communicate the old fashioned way......email, phone, or snail mail.

You go from wanting to rid the site of trolls......to becoming lord commander and master of all by deleting anyone with an opinion.....and filtering pm's .......to taking the next step downward and becoming a pimp. Good on you!

It's not people paying for premium memberships that keep the site running, it's the content that people upload to it. I haven't seen anyone joining the site lately to look at peoples green shields, it's the content that drives the site and we the members provide that content.

I get that people who pay for premium membership should get extras, but it doesn't give you a free licence to act like non premium members are simply a drain on the site, without us there would be no NN, there would just be a few green shields bobbing about wondering why the site was dead.

if you are going run ads... at the very least... make sure they are palatable and of class NN is known for... don't run em if you don't like em... don't turn it into a circus side show... those motion ads are like some guy in a cheap polyester suit tryin to sell used cars... those i do hide... post it notes work well...

also what guarantee do we have that these ads don't have a virus... spyware... malware or anything else attached to them????

you might ask yourself if there is another way such as dropping premium costs... in the states... the NFL and direct tv last year cut the cost of "NFL sunday ticket" (allowing out of market games) way way down and it increased the customer base tremendously as well they took more of the market share from cable and other sat tv companies.

in todays world they are a necessary evil... ya gotta do what ya gotta do... but that does not mean you have to degrade the quality of the site by posting less than attractive ads.... 2c

If I may give my humble opinion: quite a few NewbieNudes posters find the advertisements to be offensive.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

How can they be effective when they are offensive? confused

If advertisements are necessary, it ought to be possible to advertise stuff that is not offensive in ways that are not offensive.

The dot com bubble burst over a decade ago, but there is still a lot of stuff that can be purchased on the internet. Most of that stuff can be discussed with one's mother without stammering with embarrassment. blushing

I am sure those dot com companies have advertisements that are not offensive.

That is my two cents worth. 2c

Some good suggestions there, also I have concerns about the malware side of things too.

Maybe NN should consider shorter term memberships, I've seen a lot of sites offer terms like 3 days or a week, some people might not be able to afford a longer membership but might dip their toe in the water with a shorter and lower cost option, and if they like it then they will likely buy a longer membership. I also agree on lowering the cost of entry, we live in the App Store generation where lower cost of entry drives higher numbers of users, you just need to find a balance where the extra users offset the lower cost, not always an easy task and to start with it can seen like a loss maker till it starts to gain momentum.

Actually there is an element of non premium accounts (not all) on the increase that are a drain on the site!! The repetitive fake troll accounts, the fakes posting stolen pics, the fakes that appear under numerous accounts and or delete from one day to the next to repeat all over again.

These are the ones for the reasons I stated.

Could easily be avoided or multi teared by time spent as a member, if pics are posted, if a person makes the effort to become verified etc etc.

..... Perhaps with verification submitted and approved, a discount offered for premium?

On the flip side..... lets abolish premium all together and give all those who have it their money back and lets see how long the site lasts then huh?!

I have already explained multiple times, the ads that are there now are ones we dont have control over because they are baseline ads. Once our ad partner has figures on the clicks and impressions etc, then they can sell ads for NN directly to the market, and we will have approval control over these ads.

I want this as much as you guys! so lets click a few ads.

Exactly, it is very hard to find the balance. We can't take risks on it, we can't afford any drop in revenue. I can state though the last time we put the prices up a year or so ago, we had NO drop in takeup. We have spent several years playing with pricing and I think it is right. The rest of the market seems to think so as 29.95 per mth is the going rate on most sites.

$5.95 a month is attractive but would we get 5 or more times (to make it more revenue) as many premiums? I am not sure and as I stated before - too risky to test.

Fact is now if you buy 3 years it is only $5.55 a month. Or 1 year $10.83 a month. $10.83 a month is NOT expensive I don't beleive.

I logged out earlier just to get the full ad experience. It wasn't that bad considering I knew I was coming to a site that had nekkid pictures, videos, cams and people talking dirty in blogs and forum posts. It is easy enough to not look at something I don't want to look at. I frequent sites that have pop-up and pop-under ads. Some of these start the audio without a warning. Those are offensive and intrusive ads in my opinion. Bottom line is , it could always be worse.

I understand the personal financial aspect. That is why I drive a Ford instead of a BMW. I can't reasonably ask BMW to take a loss just so I can have a more pleasant ride. Everything has a cost.

Content=revenue, all of those fake profiles carry weight as the more members you have the more attractive your site is to external revenue streams. You only need to look at the amount of comments that get posted on obviously fake pictures to realise that when it comes to content a large number of people don't care if there is a green shield or a yellow shield attached to it.

Like I said before people don't join the site to look at green shields, it's the content, and I've seen plenty of premium members commenting on fake pictures and web crap so there are plenty of paying members who don't mind the fake stuff and webcrap, they just want to see naked people, they don't care who those people are.

Hers another flipside, force everyone to go premium or verify and see how many hours the site lasts.

Unfortunately once the few thousand members left had paid for their 3 year Premium Memberships there would be no other source of revenue and the site would die long before your membership expired.

It's worth noting that out of 3.3 million profiles only 3110 of them are verified members according to the search results on here, I'm willing to bet 3.3 million non verified profiles are a bigger revenue generator than 3110 verified members. smile

Here the dealerships put their emblems on new vehicles. I personally hate it and have asked about getting a new vehicle without an emblem or the holes that is sits in.

You guessed it. It will cost extra. Seriously.

I see everyone's point here but I think it would be far worse if the site went belly up due to lack of funds and there were a few thousand people with premium paid for that lost it all.

Sometimes we must accept a necessary evil.

I'm sure NN will try an doable solution, they just seem to be very limited in this situation.

what about verified members like premium do not see them, or maybe when you offer the ability to remove them with nudles making it cheaper for verified members to do so? This might also encourage people getting verified as well...

The ads are a great idea, but the content of these particular ads is rather disgusting. It is understandable, that the more hits these ads get, the better, and hopefully classier they will be in the future.

Figuring I'd do my part, I decided to click them. I get a message from my antivirus..."threat detected...malicious url...and Trojan horse blocked" Fortunately my antivirus caught these before they gave me problems.

So, my opinions...ads good...content bad...viruses very bad. Clean 'em up...and I'll click 'em for the cause.

So a premium member doesn't see them!
Not everyone is able to become Premium members.
I can expand my screen to hide the advert but is not just the beginning?
Are you counting on non premium members to sign up for premium because of the ads? What will come next if you don't get a major sign up. Also you state earlier that you won't allow Porn???!!!
These ads lead to Porn sites!!
