External Hard Drive
Does anyone have a preference for brand of external drive?

Lacie seems to make a good drive, the three out of four I have had over the years have had no issue. for myself what I like to do is put a internal drive I trust into a enclosure and only use it storage and data back up.

I've had failed drives from pretty much all of the major hard drive manufacturers, unfortunately modern hard drives are fairly poor in regards to reliability. I've also gone through 5 enterprise grade Raptor and Velociraptor drives in the last few years, this year alone I've had at least 10TB worth of drive failures. sad

Handle Me With Care
I brought a samsung external hard drive for my notebook.
It seemed a flimsy affair but worked for about a year before it dumped it's software and made it usless.
Wish I could get it going again.

sad

OK, ferst the werd brought means 'to bring'
bought means 'to buy'

now, does this HD make a sound when you power it up? any whiz bang crunch bzzzt tish zzzzt bing thud .... if so ..... bash it .... no wait don't do that, give it a kiss ...... wait thats a bit ... ya know ... less than a man should show in public.

Just getting started
WD
For the last several years,I only use Western Digital. All the other brands, that I have tried have failed.A type that relied on a power cord failed in less than a year. I dedicate each drive for specific stuff & or particular windows. Like 7 VS 10...I have rescued most of my audio cassettes,LP and CD`s and have the wav files on them. I do not trust leaving stuff on a internal drive. If,a download works or solves a problem,I leave a copy of the file on a WD drive.A few,I do selective backup. I will never save stuff where Microsoft try`s to force you save stuff.
