This long term NN member is now leaving (or sleeping in) this place because this formerly amateur space has become more or less unusable. Upon a time we the members pretty much ran the community but now we are being asked to pay for the fundamental right to talk to each other. This is not acceptable.
England, United KingdomMy apologies for not being able to continue a conversation. It seems that NN now wants money for messages. I will not pay for the basic community I joined 100 years ago. I might be found elsewhere.

If I ran NN...
The idea that NN is some sort of community is now a simple lie. I live in a community. It has streets and meeting places (as, in a virtual way, does NN). When I am out and about in my local community and encounter known neighbours, or complete strangers, I am at liberty to engage them in conversation. Nobody leaps between neighbours or strangers demanding money before a conversation may begin. That would be utterly absurd. It is equally absurd that NN seems to think charging money for the right and freedom to converse is OK - it is absolutely not OK. That is oppression governed by greed. A community that is ruled by the greed of whoever "owns" it is not at all a community but somebody's money-making scam and that, unfortunately, is what has happened to NN :-( mdw365
