Have you noticed when you post to NN you seem to get an imediate vote of 5 no matter what is in the picture is of.
Does anyone no why this is?

I think it gives you 5 to start just because that's the middle of the score range - a perfect average. All votes submitted from then on pull the average up or down from that middle starting point.
It does seem slightly unfair to me though, as it takes a lot of very high votes to get the average score up into high figures.

The alternative is to start off with the score equal to the first vote. This might be fairer, but would probably result in a lot of 10's

I was not complaining just comenting realy but since posting this I have been watching the scores and worked out this

vote 1 5 = 5
vote 2 10 = 7.5
vote 3 10 = 8.33
vote 4 10 = 8.75
vote 5 10 = 9.00
vote 6 10 = 9.17

The thing is, no matter how many 10s you are voted, using this system you can never achieve a perfect 10 result - you keep getting closer, but never quite reach it!

It happens not long after your pic first goes up. I assume it's done automatically as part of the vetting process. Makes people feel better anyway! LOL!
