Wednesday, June 10, 2015, 1:33:33 AM- The Moon...
"The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It's always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Everyday it's a different version of itself. Sometimes it's weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections." Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me

They walked up ahead, well, he walked and pushed her in a wheelchair along the sidewalk. They paused, turned around and wheeled back up onto the grass. He bent and plucked a white flower from a bush; gently he placed it into her hand. She curled her fingers around the stem and held it close. They didn’t speak. Words were unnecessary to understand their love. They turned around and continued along the sidewalk in a peaceful and expressive silence.

Wednesday, May 27, 2015, 8:02:12 AM- New York!
This blog has been a while in the making... not sure if another will make an appearance or I will say all that I want to say in one blog. " > The short of it: New York was amazing. I'm so glad that I went and experienced it and I will definitely go again. It was incredibly difficult choosing which pictures to share; I'm no photographer and honestly I don't have the patience for good photography. I'd much rather just soak in the experience than be bothered with taking pictures; I know, that's an odd trait for and NNer . I do have a journal full of experiences that I will always treasure though. Day 0.5: This day was mostly hell. It was a beautiful Wednesday morning, the promise of a sunny day glinted through the clouds, and I was awake way too early after a generous estimate of three hours of sleep. I was pretty nervous about the flight there. It had been about 5 or 6 years since I’d last been on a plane and I wasn’t sure how I’d fit; I’m all ass as you can tell from my pics… A short flight, stressful transfer, and a pleasantly seat mate-less flight to my final destination later, I found myself in…. Newark! That was the friendliest airport I’ve ever been to and the only reason I was able to get to Manhattan was because there are tonnes of folk ready to help lost tourists. It took me a while to get from Newark to Manhattan but I made it. My friend and I went for a drink but I was exhausted and went to bed shortly after that. Day 1: First full day in the Big Apple The first full day that I spent in NY was, of course, great and jam packed. After breakfast and coffee we wandered into Times Square. That place is unbelievable busy! There are people trying to sell you stuff all over the place, unfortunately the cameras and moderate walking pace set us apart as tourists. I'm not a particularly big fan of people approaching me in the street so it was a bit stressful. I would have preferred to be sitting off in a corner watching other people be approached . After popping into the Disney store, we somehow ended up at a gelato shop called Grom; my friend who took a semester in Italy insists that it is authentic and that there are very few locations outside of Italy. I didn't really care, it was delicious and that was the most important thing! If you ever find yourself in NY and want some gelato, I do highly recommend it. You will then find yourself on the south western (I would double check that navigation were I you) side of Central Park where you can stroll and eat your gelato . Central Park is HUGE. Apparently people will pay $3 per minute to be driven around on a bicycle. I think what I loved most about Central Park was that it is a nature sanctuary in the middle of bustling city. It's free, spacious, easily accessible by transit, full of all kinds of people... just beautiful. That night we went to the Gershwin Theatre and watched a production of Wicked. It was a great performance and fulfilled a pretty big ticket item on my "things to do" list. (I took this one especially for ShowysaurusSex) Day 2: A day for art and drinking. On the second day, we completed the other half of Central Park. A walk through nature is a pretty great way to start the day. We ended up walking around the reservoir on our way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET). This was the main place I wanted to visit. First of all, like many things in NY, it is HUMONGOUS. I don't think we saw all of it and we spent several hours there... it was almost overwhelming. I'm sharing pictures of two things that were my "favourites". It was beautiful beyond description. That night I went out for a drink by myself as my friend was trying to find guys to hook up with and was admittedly getting on my nerves a bit. It was nice being out by myself even though I didn't venture too far and literally only had one drink. I just sat and people watched and journaled. That's not creepy, right? "The fluid arc of her body projects a self assured euphoria..." Day 3: Walking, exploring, and ghosts... oh my. My friend was rather grumpy and down today so the day started off very slowly. We ended up going to the Lego Store which proved to be nearly enough fun to cheer my friend up; we checked out a Flee Market, Wall Street, and the New York Public Library. It was a lot of fun, I didn't enjoy the library as much as I thought I would; it was ironically a bit too touristy for me and we didn't even get to see any books . It was a bit of a quick in and out. That night I went on a Ghosts of New York nighttime walking tour. It was one of my favourite activities; I originally signed up for it by myself and then my friends dad was interested so he came along with me. The tour was very informative and interesting- not as scary as I would have liked- but the best part was finally getting to observe some of the nightlife in NY. It was a Saturday night walking through Greenwich Village, it felt like there was a party, dancing, music, excitement... on every corner. I do have some minor regrets that I didn't drop off my friends dad at the hotel and then go back out and enjoy it. Day 4: I put my lightsaber in Brooklyn. We went to Brooklyn today. I liked it there, we stopped in a few independently owned craft/jewellery type of shops. I bought little note cards that said "frm brklyn" with a really cute design on it. I took some pictures of really innocent signs that I just made dirty because I could. We stopped at a very large cemetery on our way back to Manhattan. It was incredibly well kept and very beautiful. It was a Sunday, which happened to be Mother's Day and there were a lot of very beautiful tributes for Mothers who had passed. I know it's public property but I do feel like it is intrusive to visit cemetery's for purposes other than celebrating/grieving a loved one so I just kind of hung out near the entrance while my friend toured around. I did manage to get a pretty picture of the Manhattan skyline while I was there though. Day 5: My last full day in NYC. My friend and his parents arrived a day before I did and they visited the Empire State Building that day. So on the 5th day, they went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I very gratefully took the opportunity to go touring a bit on my own. I took myself to a nice breakfast and started off at the Empire State Building. It is a self-paced tour and I took my sweet time; it was very well developed and quite fascinating actually. I was glad to have gotten an early start because as I was finishing up my tour it was getting progressively more crowded and on my way out I noticed that a line was developing. I walked around aimlessly just trying to take in the atmosphere and did a little bit of shopping. I went back to the hotel earlier than I would have because I thought I had a bit of a date lined up. He cancelled on me but as you might recall, I did find someone else so it worked out quite well . It was probably the best way that I could have spent my last night in NY. Day 6: Goodbye NYC The final morning was bittersweet. I didn't want to leave NY. I didn't want to go back to work. But I was missing my bed. And real food that didn't cost me an arm, a leg, and my first 3 children. The flights were full but obviously went fine. I felt like I finally learned the true meaning of a "New York minute". Manhattan really is a walking city. Some of my expectations were fulfilled: people in suits were running (literally running) around nearly everywhere and ducking into bars after work hours, there are a lot of brick apartment buildings with fire escapes snaking up the faces and sides, the insides of buildings are tiny, the people are rather brusque (but not necessarily unfriendly), it is EXPENSIVE. I was also rather surprised: there is a lot of culture, art, and diversity, the people actually seemed genuinely happy and content. It's almost like everyone (okay, probably a bit of a generalization) feels like they have a purpose that they are striving towards. People there seemed so confident and unapologetic. I loved that. Even though I saw a lot of really great attractions, I have to say that what I enjoyed most was walking through the city and riding the subway. I know, I'm a bizarre oddball. I saw this Mya Angelou poem on the subway; this is my favourite photo from my trip. Apologies for my lack of pictures toward the end of my trip. Like I said, I'm not the picture taking kind of person. I do have some pics but they aren't that great. If I choose to share them I will likely update this blog. Thanks for reading through . Things I would do differently next time: -Go out at night more and experience the nightlife… I really feel like I missed out there and wish I would have been brave enough to explore it by myself more -Check out some of the smaller museums -Do more research on festivals going on in the city -Spend less on food and more on shopping -See Jimmy Fallon!

Wednesday, April 29, 2015, 7:01:21 PM- 6 Pieces of Dating Advice We Get All the Time That are Complete Bullshit
An interesting article (not the one I mentioned in my status earlier) from one of my go-to websites. http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/04/bullshit-dating-advice "Human emotions can be fickle, and motivations can be unclear. Understandably, we want unconditional love, and we fear rejection and vulnerability. And as such, people do their best to give romance rules and regulations. If it has some sort of formula, we hope, maybe the relationship will have a better shot. From magazines to talk shows, the media tries repeatedly to decode the language of love. Doling out romantic advice has become the cornerstone of advice columns and fluff pieces. There’s apparently an endless list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to relationships. If you follow the formula, you will supposedly have a successful romance. However, the majority of these (heteronormative) tips are, in actuality, subtly sexist ways of undercutting female agency and diminishing a woman’s influence on her own romantic life." Relationships have been a touchy subject for me in the past, luckily I learned pretty early on that dating expecations are pretty much bullshit. That isn't to say that one conversation (usually with my mother or grandmother asking me about my "status" and when they can expect (great)grandchildren) can't suck me right back into wondering "What's wrong with me? Why am I single?", because you know, a woman isn't complete without a man in her life. *Rolls eyes*

Sunday, April 26, 2015, 5:12:40 PM- "Well-behaved women seldom make history."
--Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. Now, I don't necessarily want to show up in any history books, but my main life goal is to be a Badass Woman so of course I adore this quote which incidentally kicks off this article: http://pulptastic.com/15-things-all-badass-fearless-alpha-women-do-differently-from-other-types-of-women/. Special thanks to the member who sent me this article and called me a badass- a compliment of the highest order. "15 Things All Badass, Fearless Alpha-Women do Differently From Other Types of Women", is the title. I think the title is a little deceptive because this article doesn't divide women into "types". It encourages women to build themselves up. Be daring. Say no. Say yes. Communicate desires. Love, appreciate, and respect herself. Chase nothing but happiness. "These women know they're not defined by any one attribute (and certainly not by something as small as a few dimples on their backside.) They know they're a WHOLE PACKAGE and that package is so fucking awesome it demands to be spoken about with respect." Cheers to all the Fearless Baddass women on NN xoxo
