The camping season is upon!!! We took the fifth wheel and horse trailer and parked our drunken asses at our favorite spot last weekend. All was well, the stepspawn got over their fears and even got in the saddle for a bit... The horses did AWESOME with such young and inexperienced mounts. My lil gelding Diesel, 5 now... He is push button as they come, and was more tolerant than I was expecting. The weather was KICK ASS until sunday evening, then it poured until we left monday afternoon. Friday night however, my draft mare Bella had a seizure in her stall... I thought she was spooking at something at first, until I seen what she was doing up close... Staggering around like she was hammered, chewing and foaming at the mouth, sweating and breathing really heavy. It was over in about half a min then she was tired. She was back to her normal self in the morning so we commenced our trail ride. She's had a few seizures since we had her, one a year approx... I only worry that what she has could be hereditary or affect the development of a foal, as she is at the breeders right now... She goes for an ultrasound to detect pregnancy two weeks after the last "cover", then I'll ask the vet about his opinion and get some bloodwork done. I'm sure hormones set her seizures off, as she didn't have any of them when we got her (she was pregnant). I just want to duplicate her, because she's absolutely perfect, I won't pass on something like this if it's hereditary so she'll get a shot to abort if the vet thinks it's best. Still trying to grasp this stepmomdom... My stepdaughter is almost 16 now. She had her friend come with us camping and I was against the idea cause we don't have sleeping space in the camper for another and I was expecting some cocky lil hoochie momma. But she ended up being a pretty cool lil chick, someone I'd have beers with. She rode my mare Bella, and my stepdaughter seen her confidence and that urged her to ride my lil gelding Diesel. They were out all day long without our superivsion and they have no clue how to ride... We instructed them the basics and told them to pull them in a tight circled if they go too fast... They came back to camp without any stories of anything scary, and most of all my stepdaughter wants to ride more!!! That's feckin awesome, cause we have a standardbred mare who will be a great horse for her when she's ready. Horses bring the best out in people, they give direction to those who are lost and they control those who are flightly. They give confidence tho those who think its impossible. If my stepdaughter can latch on somehow to our horsey life it'll be the best thing she's ever done. I got an update today about my mare Bella... She's in heat now and the stallion is definately paying attention. Here's hoping she catches and is able to carry a healthy baby for us! Peace out! |
