hapyjacq's blog post - ignorance

i have someone that i consider a good friend.. we chat .. i wish more than we did but oh well.. he's a black dude .. if that's politically incorrect and i offend i'm sorry.. but i swear i can talk to him and ask him anything .. no worries of him taking offense or anything...

i did grow up in a predominantly white community .. in school we didn't have one black student till i was in 7th grade... so we got into this discussion... it was me talking about how some black people just don't like white folks.. like a chip on their shoulder ... i was like "what did i do to them?"

he told me things that to me were incomprehensible... unbelievable... he said for a person that is interested and wants to check out what the history books don't tell you...you can find it.. well i was interested.. i googled and i'm sure what i found is just little bits ... i was shocked.... embarrassed yes embarrassed...most of all i felt very uneducated and very very ignorant....

just goes to show ya ... you can always learn something...

Others refuse to learn....and that is a shame.

Those who refuse to learn need the biggest lesson of them all.

I have never understood racism. I am not naive...I know it exists, in a BIG, big way.
What was done to the black people in years gone by, by white people makes my stomach wrench. You must see a film called Amistad, it is excellent and will open your eyes to a few things. It's a true story, but be warned it will make you cry.

we all have the capacity to look at the past and learn from it.

It's why I try to keep my eyes open... I don't know it all, and never will. Sometimes, knowing and knowledge come by surprise.
