While in the midst of banging my head against the wall this morning, I remembered some wisdom passed along through the caregiver group I'm in. It applies to so many situations I thought I'd share.
We cannot allow ourselves to look back on past events and second guess decisions made at that time. When viewed with hindsight, we have access to information that we did not have at the time we made a decision. It is unfair to judge ourselves in that false light. All any of us can do is make the choices that seem best at THIS moment. Looking back, while educational, is otherwise pointless and serves no purpose.
I'm taking an ornery 81 year old with Alzheimer's to her new doctor this morning. We're going to be dealing with a new doctor, a new location, new office staff, etc. These are difficult for Mom to handle. I'm deploying every coping technique in my arsenal.
If anyone needs the addy for an absolutely fantastic on-line caregiver support group, pm me.
Hugs, HP
