Things went better than anticipated. Surgery was set for 2 hours but took less than one. I was supposed to stay the night but was discharged late afternoon. Figured I better type this before the codeine and valium move my keyboard keys around.

Overall, I feel pretty good. The expected soreness and stiffness, but nothing more. I had a spectacular (and trendy!) "bride of frankenstein" hairdo on one side of my head, but Poohbare very gently and patiently soaked all the dried blood out and brushed out the tangles. I'm damn lucky to have that wonderful man at my side.

Thank you all for the well-wishes. They have a greater impact than you may know.

I'm happy to announce that my cotton swab inflicted head wound is healing well. Yeah, you read that right.

I noticed the container in the medicine cabinet was out of Q-tips, so I bent down to get some more out of the vanity, stood up and SMACK right into the sharp double-edged corner of the medicine cabinet mirror. It only bled for about an hour but the goose-egg on my head was rather glorious in size. Doh!

Yeah, so, I was lurking around the site without logging in and kept noticing the "Advertise Here Easily" blurb on the upper left of the screen. I felt it was my duty to point it out to Poohbare. I mean, he's advertising his coin business other places...

I wish I could adequately describe the look he gave me. It was classic! Guess that meant "no".

Saw the doc for my final pre-op check today. Got to bring home my spiffy neck brace. I'm pleased to announce I will NOT be having to wear one of those dog head cones (or whatever they're called) post-op. I think it's cuz I promised not to lick my stitches.

Another task almost done.

A few years back, I let the girlspawn paint her old room black and purple. Mom and Poohbare look kinda pinched and sick every time they glance at those walls. Sheesh. I figured let the kid be a kid and decorate how she wants. I TOLD them I'd deal with it when the time came. The time came.

Amazing. Two coats of primer and the walls are white again. They can now wipe that prissy expression off their faces. pffft.

Friday, May 11, 2012, 12:10:02 PM- Progress! Hooray!!!

After work last night, Poohbare finished putting up the lights in the girlspawn's room while I worked on the landscaping a bit more. Borders needed to be more clearly defined and more sand put down.

This morning I finished up the last few bits and pieces of the crown moulding and did paint touch-ups. After clearing out all the tools, sawhorses, etc., and doing final cleaning, I got the bed set up and made and moved the dresser where it goes. The rest is up to her. She's got cash set aside for a new area rug, so we'll get that tomorrow and move the rest of her stuff in there over the weekend. I'm hoping my son will give me a hand with the bookcase, etc. as Poohbare will be out of town. (good timing on Pooh's part, eh?)

I'll put up some before and after pics when I have time. It turned out pretty darn well, considering what we started with and all the glitches we hit along the way.

I got outside as soon as it was light and was busy painting the house foundation. It looked pretty cruddy with so much dirt gone and bare concrete showing. The front and sides are now done and I just have some touch-up to do on the back and around the gas meter, etc.

The ground around here has a real high clay content, so on my way home from work tonight, I'll get the first few hundred pounds of sand. We want a nice thick layer so it'll work it's way into the clay over time.

I've got a loose timetable set in my mind for each stage to be completed. If all goes well, we can get the topsoil delivered early next week and have the mulch delivered next weekend.

After several years of working on this project in fits and starts, it's finally coming together and the end is in sight. WOOHOO!
