as im n my birth town I thought id do so some thoughts from some famous memphis born people ; When so many are lonely as seem to be lonely, it would be inexcusably selfish to be lonely alone. I have found it easier to identify with the characters who verge upon hysteria, who were frightened of life, who were desperate to reach out to another person. But these seemingly fragile people are the strong people really. Tennessee Williams I always tell my kids if you lay down, people will step over you. But if you keep scrambling, if you keep going, someone will always, always give you a hand. Always. But you gotta keep dancing, you gotta keep your feet moving. Was I always going to be here? No I was not. I was going to be homeless at one time, a taxi driver, truck driver, or any kind of job that would get me a crust of bread. You never know what's going to happen. Morgan Freeman I haven't talked much about being an ovarian cancer survivor because I don't really want to define myself that way. I hope I look skinnier in 3D. I hope I don't look three times as fat. That'll be disappointing. Kathy Bates Teach success before teaching responsibility. Teach them to believe in themselves. Teach them to think, 'I'm not stupid'. No child wants to fail. Everyone wants to succeed. al green If you enjoy the fragrance of a rose, you must accept the thorns which it bears. Have you ever wondered why young people take to music like fish to water? Maybe it's because music is fun. Plan and simple. It opens up their minds to dream great dreams about where they can go and what they can do when they get older. Isaac Hayes Life is like a trumpet - if you don't put anything into it, you don't get anything out of it. william Christopher Handy (w.c.handy) The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you. B. B. King When I was a boy, I always saw myself as a hero in comic books and in movies. I grew up believing this dream. Elvis Presley My home is different from my mother's, because hers is filled with beautiful objects that I was always afraid of breaking. My home is the opposite. Bring on the kids, the dogs, the parties - there's nothing that's so important it can't be broken. Cybill Shepherd If a song's about something I've experienced or that could've happened to me it's good. But if it's alien to me, I couldn't lend anything to it. Because that's what soul is all about. Falling out of love is like losing weight. It's a lot easier putting it on than taking it off. Aretha Franklin All of us are born for a reason, but all of us don't discover why. Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others. Danny Thomas (founder of st. jude hospital where no parent pays a penny for the care of a sick child) I sang in church growing up. Memphis is the blues capital of the world, we like to say. My teenage years were exactly what they were supposed to be. Everybody has their own path. It's laid out for you. It's just up to you to walk it. The many sounds of Memphis shaped my early musical career and continue to be an inspiration to this day. Justin Timberlake a song by a fellow Memphian Otis redding in memory of him Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. I learnt a lot about passion from living n Memphis n new Orleans there is a band that only writes their songs n Memphis u may of heard of them n ok that song is sexy so my reckless act of kindness thought of the day 1 act of kindness is carried on 2 many others let us all feel good live love n laugh w passion n be kind pass the kindness on |
