oooos4all's blog post - A Dumbass?

A friend of ours is a long haul trucker and is away from home for extended periods of time. While he is out earning their living his wife has an ongoing nearly live in companion. Without even trying to hide it she and her part time man go about the community together as a couple.

We of course tried to stay out of this. Bob (just as easily Bill) talked about this to us while at our house Saturday. Turns out he knew of the "friend" all along and was not only good with it but encouraged the affair. He kept his knowlwdge of it to himself so as to not ruin it for her. He said that it made him happy that she could take care of her needs and security without him there. This way he didn't have to worry about her or losing her to anyone else. I guess an odd comfort in knowing his homework was being taken care of. Her two lives insured his one.

I couldn't help think "what a dumbass". Another man is living his life and he thinks it's great. He is right in that when home she is with him making him the
number one man.

A concept that I wouldn't accept for myself but it seems to work for them. I wonder how the odd man thinks about this. How could it not be strange for all of them?

We told him he should tell her he knows. He said he was afraid it would ruin it for her and he would be worried about her again.

Maybe I'm the dumbass for applying my opions to someone elses situation. After all he doesn't understand our having a girlfriend.

Yeah but all parties know about "your girlfriend". My thing is what if the wife someday runs off with the boyfriend/companion, then where will Bill/could as easily be Bob be? Or what if Betty (the wife) decides to divoce Bob/Bill and take half of everything he's worked for and shares it with the companion? Hmmmmm...yeah, I think Billy-Bob is the dumb-ass here. But then again, what if Billy-Bob has another Betty on the side? And that's why he wants the Betty he's married to to be happy, too--just as he seems to be. Hmmm??? Didn't think of that one, did ya?
