Phew... I'm on another continent, but even I am glad that this election business is finally over.
On a side note, with regards to cultural differences: it's funny how some tendencies are quite different between Europe and the US:
US: mistrust of the government, survival of the fittest, 'socialist' is (almost) an insult. Europe: mistrust of the corporate world, solidarity, 'capitalist' is (almost) an insult.
I know, it's a very black and white way of putting it as there are variations on both sides, but it's definitely why I cannot imagine living in the US permanently. Universal health care and general social welfare system, gay marriage, abortion, no death penalty, euthanasia... These are a given here and I could not 'stand' to see them absent or questioned, even if they do not all concern me personally. |
