I work with lots of different groups/people in my job. Everyone has a cause, no matter who they are as an individual, or what group they associate themselves with. I get that. And almost everyone with a cause says in one way or the other that I/WE have not been treated fairly. I get that too, sadly it does happen a lot. What I don't get is why everyone thinks their cause is THE MOST IMPORTANT cause? And they do. Pretty much universally I run into the yes, X and Y and Z all have good and valid causes, but MINE is THE most important/maligned/misunderstood of ALL causes. Years ago when I started teaching I learned that the best way to prepare for any question was to seek the answer for yourself before anyone ever asked you. I try to do the same thing with "causes". What is your core issue? Why do you feel the way you do about it? What are possible solutions? Why would others be concerned with your cause? You get the idea. What started this rant? I had one cross my desk today. Good. Valid. Should be addressed.
So I started asking questions. The answer? OURS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CAUSE. NO ONE HELPS US WITH OUR CAUSE. OTHER GROUPS HAVE BEEN GETTING HELP FOR A LONG TIME AND WE ARE JUST IGNORED. Back to my original premise, everyone has a cause, and theirs is the most important cause every in the case. If you don't believe them, just ask.... |
