Being Human is a brilliant series. It has three main characters, a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost. The twist is they don't want to be who they are hence the title - Being Human. John Mitchell is a vampire with a conscience. He became a member of a group of vampires on his conversion, but he leaves in disgust. The werewolf locks himself away at full moon to prevent killing anyone and the ghost finds out a shocking secret about her death.
Various guest characters appear in each episode, and it incorporates the everyday parts of life into the plot. Work - the vamp and wolf work at a hospital - having the neighbours round for drinks and the perils of a werewolf dating on the eve of full moon. It's a very original idea and extremely well written with drama, comedy and sadness.
The vampire group are planning an uprising, and the last episode has a gruesome finish with some great special effects. Definitely one of the best things I've seen in ages and a departure from the usual horror fare. There's a couple of clips on Youtube and it's available on DVD if you can't watch it on TV, although I've read they replaced a lot of the music on the DVD release for contractual reasons and it changed the atmosphere somewhat. |
