Thursday, May 13, 2010, 9:57:13 PM- Putting your affairs in order................
The doctor, after an examination, sighed and said, 'I've got some bad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your affairs in order.' The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the waiting room where her daughter had been waiting. 'Well, daughter, we women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well. I have cancer. So, let's head to the club and have a martini.' After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more martinis. They were eventually approached by some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two were celebrating. The woman told her friends they were drinking to her impending end, 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS.' The friends were aghast, gave the woman their condolences and beat a hasty retreat. After the friends left, the woman's daughter leaned over and whispered, 'Momma, I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your friends you were dying of AIDS! Why did you do that?' 'Because I don't want any of those bitches sleeping with your father after I'm gone.' And THAT, my friends, is what is called, 'Putting Your Affairs In Order.' THOUGHT FOR THE DAY... Women are like phones: They like to be held, talked to, and touched often. But push the wrong button and your ass is disconnected.

Saturday, May 8, 2010, 10:41:09 PM- The Fish Whisperer........................
My plan for this Saturday, if I was recovered from the flu enough was to cut the lawn and work on the car or if not hit the couch and watch a movie.I was so beat last nite from a long week of work and being sick, I didn't even make it thru the first period of the Blackhawk's game. My son was going to need the pickup to move some horses so I had to get that ready for him to take. The battery was dead of course! After putting it on the charger, I went to feed my son's fish, Pacu, who is a 12" long vegetarian Pirahna (a Pacu -lol) that I take care of while he is away at school.Well Pacu, was not doing too good. He was sluggish, had not eaten and his lower lip was swollen. I took a water sample to my local aquarium which tested very low in PH. His condition is probably a parasitic infection but before we can treat him for that we must raise the PH level to aid in his recovery. Pacu is in a 75 gallon tank so I had to remove 15 gallons, add 15 gallons of treated tap water, wait 15 minutes, remove 15 gallons and then replace it again. This should raise the PH level.Hopefully he will be ok.He is a tough fish. By now it was 3 o'clock.I got the mower out and had just filled up the bag when it started to rain!Went into the garage to putter around when the rain ended suddenly. So I headed out again to get nailed by a down pour a few minutes later.Called it a day then.In no mood to get a wet chill after being sick all week. Drove to the store to find out it had not rained at all just three blocks away! Now it's 5:30 and blue skies so I am going to give it another shot (after a quick peak a Pacu)so the lawn looks good for Mother's Day. Thanks for reading and a Happy Mother's Day to all!

...cuz it has already been a long week. I've got the flu, my partner is on vacation so I can't stay home sick and it's busier than hell(which is a good thing), just not when I feel like the walking dead. Plus we are having the most perfect spring weather and I feel to lousy to enjoy it.At least the Blackhawks are winning!

Sunday, April 25, 2010, 11:53:53 PM- WWII vet celebrates 90th B-day....................
We celebrated my uncle's 90th b-day today at his assisted care home. He has his health problems including alzheimer's but he is still spry. Has a great sense of humor and keeps everyone laughing. Uncle was a paratrooper and jumped into Normandy on D-Day.Eventually made his way to Berlin.Among his WWII pics are many of him with pretty women. Unfortunately he cannot tell us anything about them anymore. Both he and his brother played the concertina and accordians and always told me that if you played an instrument and had a bottle of whiskey you could always have a good time - especially with the ladies. While in Berlin he had a German girlfriend whose missing husband had been a Nazi SS officer. Well, guess who shows up one day? Right, the missing husband, desperate for help from his wife in Allied occuppied Berlin.Hunted, he had made his way back to his home only to find a U.S.Army Sergeant sitting in his living room. He was holding his Luger on my uncle and was about to shoot him when the wife shot her husband in the back, killing him.I got this story from the brothers about 10 years ago when we sat around the kitchen table, them playing and singing Polish polkas while I did the drinking.I wish I had recorded that wonderful Saturday afternoon with my uncles. Today he played and sang for all of us as I recorded him. He had the whole place singing and swaying. I think a couple tried to polka but kinda tough with strollers and walkers! We watched some old home movies of long gone relatives at the summer home, him riding his Harley and working on his beloved Model A Fords. Family is precious and so are the times of our lives.
