Monday, April 24, 2006, 12:00:01 AM- Sunday, lazy Sunday
I shouldn't say entirely lazy, we actually got quite a bit done. Wolf's cooking jambalaya, I did laundry, washed the floors and we went to the store and church. But, the day has been rainy and cool and we enjoyed some time just lolling on the couch reading while listening to gospel music. It was nice. Wolf's off to Sunday night service at the church (with one of my tv's that I volunteered) and I'm at home catching up on stuff and finishing the laundry. (there's a job that never ends!) I had to wait for my son to get dropped off from his dad's so I opted to do some work at home. I updated a website I work on and things like that. We usually don't even turn the pc's on when it's Sunday but I did need to get these things updated. The poor folks have been waiting almost a month for some of these updates...but hey, that's what you get for free labor As for Saturday...omg...I was SOOOOOOOOO tired. I think I got to bed about 5am or thereabouts, slept fitfully for a couple of hours and then just barely functioned til my son ended up going back to his dad's. I fell asleep shortly thereafter. Slept til about 5 then got up and ran some errands. It was pretty much a wasted day but that's ok. My son had a blast the night before and there's nothing better than hearing the laughter emanating from his room when he's with his friends. lazy and happy kitt xxx

Friday, April 21, 2006, 10:11:33 PM- Overtime already?
I have to say I truly enjoy my new job. I have some down time but not much. I'm training in a backwards method. I'm working on projects that someone at my level wouldn't normally be working on but I'm learning the business through the projects. In a perfect world, no one would be overly busy and I would be introduced to the business in a traditional method and trained slowly on all the items that I'm expected to do. Of course, we don't live in a perfect world so that's not how I'm being trained. That's actually fine with me. This keeps my interest far more than slow methodical training. Some things take longer than others to sink in, particularly when dealing with our corporate culture, but other things just "pop" right away. Lucky for me, I happen to shine in the area of finding issues and tracking the causes down so it seems to be working out well. Today was one of those days where I ended up with a project that "had to be done" by the end of the day and I was able to find the problems within the process and complete it to satisfaction. I've already started to put in overtime this week and I'm sure my boss will have to justify that but he doesn't mind. On another note, my son is home tonight hosting a sleep over for a couple of friends so I imagine I'll be up late tonight. Getting used to sleeping at night again I'll be beat by tomorrow morning. I certainly don't mind but it'll be a change! Who knows, maybe I'll actually get on line tonight and get to chat with old friends! We'll see how everything plays out with the boys. in for a long night kitt xxxx

Thursday, April 20, 2006, 11:23:19 PM- All That New Life
I promised Lunna that I would post pictures of my daffodils. I took them last night but my card reader wasn't working. Rather than fiddle about with it then I decided to play around today after work. I'm afraid the poor card reader has taken quite a few rides from the cord getting hooked around my leg. Ah well, there's more than one way to skin a cat so to speak...I just pulled them off the camera with the USB cord. So, for Lunna...the daffodils. And the rest of you, the latest batch of chicks. New life abounds! kisses kitt xx

Saturday, April 15, 2006, 12:54:58 PM- Friends
I was writing up report sheets for my old job this morning. I came to realize how very well I know these people. I suppose that happens after spending three years with them but I never really thought about it until I had to write things out. Like how MB likes subs from Amato in Maine because of the oil or how MM likes sweet and low in her spaghetti sauce and her pasta can't be cooked aldente or how her skin is sensitive so I use a cap and a half of softener in the wash. We may have started out as clients and workers but we became very good friends. These women have seen me go through hard times and good times, they've shared their lives with me and showed me they cared in so many little ways. I've developed habits of making sure little things were taken care of for them. It wasn't just about cleaning their house or getting their groceries, it was listening to them and taking their dog out so they could rest or just being there to hold their hand when one of their pets died. I may not see them every week now but I'll always have that time we shared. It's a bit similar here. I have so many dear sweet friends who have seen me through so many changes, both good and bad. I like to think that I've done the same for many of them. I'm not around as much anymore because of work and the fact that the good weather is starting (which means work around the farm) but...I still think of you everyday and all the time we've had so far. Hopefully I'll have a bit more time now that I'm not working the two outside jobs. I need to catch up on blogs and make sure everyone is ok. Just know that I am thinking of you and that I care about you. kitt xxx

Friday, April 14, 2006, 1:12:30 AM- Almost but not quite...
It's almost the end of the week but not quite. I, fortunately, don't have to work tomorrow. Over here, being very parochial, we shut down the mill on Good Friday. Wolf gets the same benefit so we both have tomorrow off. There's still things to do though. The check engine light came on in my car again so it's off to a Hyundai dealership tomorrow and we have to get hay and shavings not to mention try to get some work done outside. But, it's over for the "work" week. This week was fraught with good and bad. Good I don't have to cover two outside jobs anymore. Bad I don't see my clients every week. Good I got my first paycheck in a long while, bad they keep taking taxes from me. Good my chickens are laying like madwomen ... bad I broke my glass dildo and well,...can't lay myself. (and Lunna, the bitch, thinks killing eggies are bad...jeez, she has no idea) At any rate, it's rolling full speed ahead into a weekend. It's Easter Sunday for us christians and that's a big deal so we'll probably be going to both Catholic and Baptist services if we can pull it off. We'll probably see family and we'll probably try to get some much needed work around here done in between everything. And, we're expecting some hatchings this weekend so with any luck we got the incubator set correctly and we'll have chicks (more work to be done there but that's ok..it's worth it to see them). If I don't manage to get on again before Sunday, Happy Easter to all who celebrate. And, Happy Passover for those who celebrate that. as glassdick would say Namaste...Peace happy kitt xxx

Tuesday, April 11, 2006, 12:40:53 AM- Relief but sad...
Tonight was a little hard. I had to say goodbye to a client I've had for three years. It's a relief that I won't have to pull 12 hour days on Mondays but it's sad too. I'll miss seeing her. I intend to keep in touch but I know I won't be over there every week like I have for the past three years. She's a tough old bird but she's a sweetheart too and the tears in her eyes as I left really tugged at my heartstrings. I like to make out that I'm a tough chick too but if you know me well, you know a lot of it is bullshit. I'm actually very sensitive, or sensible as Lunna would say. So right now I'm kind of out of sorts...a bit tense, melancholy and sort of disorganized and hungry. Wolf had a beer waiting for me when I got home but I haven't even touched it yet...that goes to show how out of sorts I really am. Well, anyway...besides that...if you haven't read it yet, read Lunna's blog today. She's talking about the damn right click feature that the whiners got reinstated. Nice to know if you piss and moan loud enough you get your way. Too bad the lifers aren't crybabies but then again, we've managed to pay for our memberships and care about the site....maybe that's why we don't keep crying, we like to believe that someday we'll see the improvements and features we maturely suggest. wandering off to find food kitt xxx

Tuesday, April 4, 2006, 10:05:53 PM- Conductors and Insulation
Ahhh, I heard ya missed me...*blush* Honestly I was bumming out on Sunday. I woke up feeling awful. I figured it must have been the beer I had the night before at my friends' but I don't usually get hangovers and this one was packing a punch. Turns out it must have been a bug because I was running a fever, cold chills, muscles aches..the whole nine yards as the day progressed. It was probably a combination of stress and other factors that lowered my immune system enough for it to kick in. All I could think about was how I was going to be sick on my first day to work. Monday I was fair to middling though and did go in ... muscles were still sore and I think the middle of the morning I was feverish but I was good enough to get there. Monday was all orientation pretty much so it wasn't too bad. I got my badge, learned how to work the security system, set up some of my accounts on the network, and read a lot. The only thing that truly sucked was that I had given my previous job a 2 weeks notice so I had to cover my client from 5 to 8pm. So I put in a 12 hour day. Thankfully, Wolf had taken care of dinner and I had some food waiting when I got home. Today I took the bull by the horns and updated a document that needed work. I learned how to put in an ECR (Engineering Change Request) and complete a Design Review Report. I did the ECR backwards as I should have done that prior to changing the document but it all worked out. My new company is ISO compliant so everything you do has to be documented thus the ECR prior to change. We make cables. I need to learn the lingo so right now I'm doing a LOT of reading. I'm currently learning about conductors and insulation. Copper wire is the most popular conductor and insulation is pretty much what it says it is. You insulate your conductor to make it usable for various applications. I got to see the extruder machines that they use to coat the wire with various plastics and I got to see the other chinese machines that bunch the conductors and insulate them way faster than the US machines. I have a new found appreciation for cables. I spent many hours ordering them when I was a network tech but I never really thought about what was required to make them before I got them. In the company where I am now they manufacture bulk so they would actually be the company supplying the company I ordered from. They do a lot of customized cables for aerospace, military, medical, etc.. I'm an engineering "spec tech". I take the specifications and turn them into instructions for production. I figure out the man hours and costs incurred in the production of each quote. It's rather interesting. More so than I expected it to be. The company itself is great. Everyone there is friendly and seems to be very happy to be there. I think that in itself speaks well for the company. All in all I think it will work out wonderfully once I can wrap my head around all the new information and the math formulas. I missed reading up on everyone the past couple of days but I have to say the new developments in my life are pretty demanding right now. And I love it off to look at cable samples & cook dinner kitt xxx

Friday, March 31, 2006, 1:03:10 PM- Tieing up the ends
Well I got confirmation yesterday that my start date is Monday so besides going to my mother's today I've decided to swing by my current place of employ and return my smock and policy book and give them a two week notice. I considered staying on but my clients are both scheduled during the time that my son is at home and I would prefer not taking the time away from him. If I kept them it would mean I wouldn't be home until about 8 at night. By then, he's well into his games and his friends so I would limit our time to saying...it's 10, get ready for bed. So I'll stick to the full time job only and be home by dinner time. The roof rocked yesterday. It was hot up there but there was a slight breeze which made it very comfortable. Sorry VB I didn't take pictures I did manage to relax quite a bit though. I also know the house is clean, laundry done and the flower garden raked. Today I just have to drop off my taxes, notify my old job and visit my mom. That leaves a weekend of leisure and then back to the grind. Be honest I'm kind of excited, I enjoyed working. off again kitt xxx

Tuesday, March 28, 2006, 2:45:19 PM- Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go...
Well, my casual mornings of cleaning the house and checking blogs is soon coming to an end. Yep, I'll miss the puttering but it's off to work I go. Yippee!! I didn't want to say anything for fear of jinxing my feelings but I got an e-mail yesterday from one of the places at which I interviewed. The manager liked me and wanted to push to hire me over an internal candidate but wanted to hear where I was in that thought process. I responded by thanking him for his vote of confidence and telling him that I wasn't daunted by the learning curve and felt that I could do a good job after my training. I got a call this morning from the HR department. I have to go for a drug test today and then she'll call back when the results are in and we can set up the start date. Most probably Monday will be my first day back to full time work. I'm a bit psyched right now. It's one of the jobs that is local so it will only take me about 15 minutes to get to work. That's a real plus in the winter when we have bad weather. I got a good feeling from the manager too. He seemed like a very fair and straightforward guy and I really like that in a manager. I hate playing games at work and I like to know where I stand with someone. Tell me if I do something wrong, tell me how to fix problems, be fair with me and I'll reward you with loyalty and determination. I've been fortunate to have a couple of bosses like that so I can usually tell right away if I'll enjoy working for someone. On the flipside, I've had some real shitty employers and I know from experience that it won't work out in the long run, no matter how much I need the money. It's one of my faults and one of my positives at the same time. I'm extremely loyal and hardworking but I have to be respected and valued at the same time and I can't pretend to be other than I am. Oh boy...I gotta do something to celebrate! Hmmmm....maybe a great meal or maybe I can convince Wolf to take us out to eat! Of course, that means convincing my son to get off his computer..lol Oh, and don't worry Straw...I'll get those soaps done before the week is up. fairly dancing kitt xxx

Monday, March 27, 2006, 2:10:04 PM- Busy but good
Wolf and I were saying that the weekend seemed busy. I did a lot of cleaning and then I had buyers come to the farm for goats. Wolf worked. We then had an engagement at some friends' for dinner and cards. It was just one thing after another. So, Sunday we decided to mellow out. We went to church, took a short ride and then came home to read the paper, listen to music and cook. Wolf made a fabulous meal of chicken enchiladas, refried beans and spanish rice. It was great! I took care of the cleanup, he called his mom and we chatted for a while. He fed the animals and by then my son came home. He was all jazzed because he had brought his Alienware home. He kept be-bopping in and out of the kitchen to tell me about some thing or another. In between his updates I read my bible, Wolf read his in the living room. We've decided on different tactics...I'm going straight through, he's jumping from old to new testament doing about 5 chapters in each at one time. Some people may find this odd but we both have strong faiths and derive great comfort from them. It's also a good example for children. My son will pick up the bible now and read it at times. Oddly enough he'll read it out loud when he's on the xbox in an effort to distract other players...go figure. All in all, Sunday was a relaxing and enjoyable day and what more can you ask for. still mellow kitt xxx
