Thursday, June 24, 2010, 12:53:45 PM- The Vuvuzela
If there is one thing that can be said about the vuvuzela, it’s that it is very contagious. Even if you hate it, once it’s placed in front of you, you can’t help but pick it up and blow with glorious ferocity. People hate hearing others blow it, but love it when they pump their cheeks with air to blow it. It’s like sex; people don’t mind doing it but hate hearing their neighbours shagging (a problem I had until recently, thank goodness they moved out). The first time you hear your neighbours indulge in hanky panky it is mildly amusing, but not so much once you start hearing them scream frequently. I will not deny that they can be terribly annoying. In the past we really never had as many vuvuzelas in a stadium as we do now. Soccer matches have become much louder as we drew nearer to the World Cup. They are louder than they have ever been simply because there are more vuvuzelas per square metre than in the past. Is this based on scientific research? No it’s not. It’s based on a calculated guesstimation, whatever that means.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 9:22:05 AM- Have you ever thought?
Was looking through my wardrobe the other day, looking for a pair of socks, and came across the usual sock that had lost it's partner, and it got me thinking. In South Africa we have a population of about 50+ million, with approx 25 million men. Now if everyone of us has as many divorced socks in their sock draw as I have then we can assume that each person loses at least 4 socks a year, so that means 100 millon socks a year go missing!! Where the fuck are they? Lets extrapulate that out, assuming the population of the USA is 300 million, with 150 million men, and that each lose four socks a year, that is 600 million socks a year that get lost!! Between South Africa and the US we lose 700 million socks every year.. 1.9 million socks everyday of the year.. can anyone imagine how big a pile of 700 million socks is? Where do the buggers hide? I am perplexed!

Friday, June 11, 2010, 10:02:41 AM- It is here!
And so the day has arrived, and today the World Cup kicks off, and we are ready to to confound the critics who said it wasn't possible. Last night was the kick off concert, and what a spectacular event it was, our local artists were not over shadowed by the international stars, and even though Shakira absolutely sizzled on stage, my heart was bursting with pride for my country. In just 4 hours we, Bafana bafana, which means, The Boys The boys, take on Mexico in the opening game, and whilst the record and form books would suggest a victory for Mexico, don't underestimate the home side, with nothing to loose, and a nation of support behind them. In 6 hours we will know. Go South Africa you beauty! Viva mzansti Viva... To all those visiting or just watching around the world on TV, welcome to my world, come sit a while, we have lots to share, and a simply stunning country to show off. Enjoy!

Well today is the day, my youngest has turned 18, she is now old enough to drink, drive and be considered an adult and be legally liable for her actions and decisions, she is also old enough to go to war, which fortunately, living where we do, is not a concern. Where have the years gone, and who is this grey haired bugger that looks back at me from the mirror? Old bastard! Happy day all!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 7:11:58 AM- Wow
Wow, it is the third month of the year already! We are steaming towards the end of the first quarter! A funny thing has happened to us, and would like to share it with you. Every November our club organises what they call sunset bowls. It is very informal games of lawn bowls played from about 5.30pm untill it gets too dark every friday. For years my father in law, in his 70,s has been nagging us to come and play and we have always made an excuse for not going. I mean, bowls?? Hell that is old man's marbles, played by old farts who are in God's waiting room, so what would we be doing there? Anyway in December, just to keep the peace we went to play... We walked onto the greens.. the music was pumping, beers were flowing, the dress was anything buit white! Well, the long and the short of it is that we are now members of the bowling section of the club too! It is such an awesome sport! I was working towards the half iron man and have injured my knee quite badly so for now my cycling and running days are over, but bowls is offering me, and J, an opportunity to be competitive agin. I know it sounds oh so colonial, but it really is enjoyable, and I would urge those of you who have the opportunity to try the game, to give it a shot... you may be very surprised. happy day all!
