A seamstress I am not. I've never used a sewing pattern before. I just kinda wing it. I also don't sew clothing, so it's not big loss.

So .... I'm making some shorts, and I have the two front pieces of fabric and the two back pieces of fabric and I read the instructions about a zillion times, and carefully start to pin the fabric and run the stitching.... hey, this is going pretty fast! pin/sew/pin/sew/pin/sew TA-DAH! Done!

Hold em up... uh.... well these ain't right. These ain't right at all! Now if I were seriously bowlegged, they might fit fine... but what about all these bunchy areas by the crotch? WTF?!?!?

Poohbare and I are talking and I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong when suddenly it hits me. I forgot to pair the front and back pieces of fabric, so one leg is made of the two front pieces and one leg is made of the two back pieces. oh ffs!

These things are so Gawdawful I can't stop laughing. Might even keep 'em.

My baby (a/k/a the girlspawn) starts high school on Wednesday. To say the anxiety level in the house is a tad bit high would be an understatement. She just popped in to our room to model her new gym uniform. It's truly dreadful. I mean downright FUGLY!

It was damn hard not to laugh.

Our office is expanding in leaps and bounds. Another paralegal joins us next week. Two more attorneys start at the beginning of September and are bringing all their litigation files with them. Our law clerk should get his bar exam results shortly and once he's sworn in, he'll become an associate.

The new secretary started yesterday. Real nice lady, my age, similar work background and she picked up our document management system pretty fast and asked good questions. All good signs. The only red flag was her uncertainty over the number of copies needed for a court filing, which should be a no-brainer with her background. With all the new people coming in, I really REALLY need her to be on her game. I'm chalking it up to first day overload and keeping my fingers crossed.

It was an idyllic weekend. We did a whole lotta nothing other than being together. Now Monday comes crashing in, but I'm trying to hold onto the sense of contentment and serenity we enjoyed the last two days. It was good stuff.

Yesterday was one of those perfect do-nothing kind of days. Silliness ruled, we got an attack of the giggles, took some goofy pics for FB and went out for an excellent date-night dinner.

Pooh and I had informed the girlspawn we would not buy her black clothes; she tends to want ONLY black. Yesterday I heard her teasing how hard it is to find clothes when she has "color restrictions."

The school shopping never seems to end, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. 14 year old girls need WAAAAAAY more stuff than boys of the same age. sheesh. I'm kinda missing her hoodie/flannel/ratty jeans phase.
