Wednesday, July 17, 2013, 5:31:24 AM- Wake-up call
I overslept by half an hour today, and still caught my bus in time. It says a lot about hoow much time I usually take getting ready for work Random thought 1: the most vivid dreams are often the ones between turning the alarm clock off and suddenly being jolted awake by your inner clock because you've overslept. I dreamt about my ex (who I haven't seen in 8 years) and also about being attracted to a co-worker. In dreams anything is possible... But I usually don't remember them after waking up. Random thought 2: ever been mistaken for a shop assistant? I once folded a t-shirt so neatly after unfolding it to look at the sleeves, that a woman asked me where a certain brand was in the shop, thinking I worked there.

Monday, July 8, 2013, 1:01:40 PM- Habits and routine
I tend to see habits and routine as boring. But it turns out they do have advantages! During July and August, we have different work hours, much earlier (but we also leave earlier). As a consequence, I eat breakfast at work now instead of at home and I don't spend time on the computer before leaving for work. Which changes my routine completely in the morning. To the point of already being on my way to work this morning before realising I hadn't brushed my teeth. Awkward I need to get myself a new routine for July and August, or start keeping a toothbrush at work...

Sunday, July 7, 2013, 9:22:34 AM- Sleepy confusion
This morning I woke up at 5.45 AM and these were my thoughts, in chronological order after looking at the alarm clock: - damn, the alarm light is off, I forgot to set my alarm - phew, lucky me, I woke up earlier than the foreseen hour, no oversleeping this time - wait a minute, it's Sunday, I don't need to get up early - mmm, back to sleep now...

Wednesday, July 3, 2013, 7:42:30 PM- Goofy
TWL's blog spoke of goofiness... An example of my goofiness? Once, while waiting for the bus with some friends in the morning, the street light went out because the sun had risen and I then kicked it, as if that would make it go on again...

Tuesday, July 2, 2013, 3:30:54 PM- Prejudice
To answer a question, no, the party was not worth the pain of wearing high heels. I can think of few things that would be worth that kind of pain On a side note, some people's prejudice really angers me. At the party, there were several colleagues, from a small band of friend-co-workers who often do things together. One of those colleagues proceeded to lecture me about how I should train for my hiking holidays to be able to keep up with BF. Meddlesome, but fine. But then she goes, in the most condescending tone, "I mean, do you even get any exercise during the year?" Apparently in her mind, fat people don't exercise. I felt like slapping her. She's the same person who, a while ago, was incredibly surprised when I told her I loved vegetables, including Brussels sprouts. "oh really, you didn't seem like the type." Because the 'type' to like vegetables = skinny? Made my blood boil, and she doesn't even realise it...

Saturday, June 29, 2013, 11:52:05 PM- lesson learned
I just spent 3 hours at a party standing up, in high heels. My god, the pain, especially having to walk half a mile back to car afterwards on top of that. Flat shoes next time... The suffering we endure to look pretty...

Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 4:40:03 AM- Yippee
I entered into a writing contest (organised by a European university) a few months ago with a short story in French. I've gotten news that I won 1st prize in the category 'French as an acquired language'! My story story will be published in an anthology and I've won 500 euros Only a pity I won't be able to attend the ceremony, as I will be traveling through the US at that time. At last some good news in these stressful weeks

Tuesday, June 25, 2013, 4:51:26 AM- Poor little Belgium?
So the Belgian player Steve Darcis (pronounced "Darcy" ousted Rafael Nadal in the 1st round at Wimbledon. Against everybody's expectations. It's fun to hear the BBC commentary, high praise from Boris Becker. Proud to be Belgian!

Wednesday, June 19, 2013, 7:23:13 PM- Norway part 4
I give up, I'm at my wits end. I don't know how many times and in which other ways I can repeat "too much work, not enough people" to my boss so she will finally understand. She added another task to our overflowing task list today. And instead of getting extra staff, it has been decided that one of our staff members will not be replaced during her maternity leave (6 months). So we're going from 3 to 2 people, instead of going from 3 to 4. Maybe because she had a burnout, she wants everyone else to have one too? Trying to think of something cheerful to say... Not really working out for me, so I'll let my pictures do the talking. We started our second hike with reasonable weather and temperatures. But as we climbed we ended up in a different landscape, not what we expected in May. Hiking a mile in snow up to our knees, quite tiring... But beautiful. On our third walk, we saw a lovely cabin with a frozen lake in the background. It's hard to beat the fjords for pretty lighting:
