This weekend has felt like a mini-vacation of sorts. Maybe because we tried to involve ourselves in all the big events of the holiday. Even last night we went out to dinner then back downtown to see the fireworks and listen to the B-52's. It had just finished raining a little and the air was thick, hot and humid enough to make anyone sweat like a pig.
It was about 16 years ago but I partied with Cindy Wilson of the B-52's. We were having a party at our house and a friend of ours brought her to the party. Just a friend of a friend but still that's pretty cool!
By the time we got down to the Arch it was sea of humanity. My guess is that nearly 150,000 people were there. We couldn't even get close enough to see the stage. Most of my time was waiting in line to buy beer. It didn't matter because people watching was what it was all about.
To just sit back in lawn chairs we had brought and see fireworks explode under the arch. It's a St. Louis tradition. And in the back of my minds we were all had the B-52's "Love Shack" playing in our heads.
