I hate voice mail, it is an excuse for people to not do their jobs. I had to make 2 calls this morning and had to leave 2 messages. Now I am xxxxxx to sit around and wait for them to call me at their leisure. I do have other things I could be doing with my day. Frustrated, ju

| Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 1:58:03 AM- Controversy | ||||||
Governor General Michaelle Jean ate a small piece of seal heart in the arctic community of Rankin Inlet and at least in this part of the world the debate about did she go too far is raging. The EU has decided to ban all imports of seal products. Many, many celebrities including Sir Paul have jumped on the bandwagon declaring the seal hunt inhumane. I have a little problem with all of this. The seal hunt in Canada goes back thousands of years. Our aboriginal people have depended on this harvest. If you know anything about the aboriginal people of this country then you are well aware the kill and subsequent feast are all a matter of great respect. The thanks for bounty are not to be taken lightly. This is not an easy climate. The majority of this country is inaccesable by road and rail. The debate about our governor general having gone too far because she took part in a tradition that predates this country is ludicrous. Had she been fulfilling her duties in any other country and had partaken in their traditional food she would have been praised. Why then are so many against her participating in a tradition that is thousands of years old here? Seal pups are cute there is no denying that. Somewhere along the line someone decided they were too damn cute to eat. The pelts shouldn't be harvested even though they are warm and waterproof. Someone decided they needed to make an issue of tradition and neccesity portray it as a blood bath. It saddens me that our culture is so misunderstood. If we were a third world county and if seals didnt werent so damn cute this wouldn't be an issue. The fact is that we aren't a third world country most of our population lives in the south but if you were to travel north you would soon realise how isolated these people really are and would understand the need to keep the ancient traditons alive. For them it is a matter of survival. I am really neither for nor against the seal hunt I am just sad that the rest of the world can be so adamant without really knowing what is going on. ju

| Monday, May 25, 2009, 9:46:25 PM- Birthdays | ||||||
For the first 16 years or so of your life they are celebrated selfishly, it is the day you arrived on this stage. After that you keep celebrating until one day it dawns on you, you aren't the centre of the universe. At that time you quietly acknowledge the passing years, of course expecting a few more nods for the biggies, 30, 40, 50, 60 and then 65 you get the mother of all birthday presents if you are lucky, retirement. Roughly 10 years after that your birthday becomes something of note again. Parties are being held in honour of your sheer luck/stubborness of survival. What you don't count on in the interim is a celebration, a day when people remind you that you really are special. I am incredibly grateful to all who made today a special day for me. Thank you for the cards, the PMs, the blogs and the shout out in the forum and chat. 46 ain't looking so bad, ju

| Monday, May 18, 2009, 11:25:59 PM- So I was chatting | ||||||
I know what else is new right? It was interesting because we were discussing keeping the NN peace so to speak. The reason for this is some kind of ownership some feel towards others. I am not talking stalking by a long shot I am talking about people who feel a certain "connection" for lack of a better word because they knew another first, or feel like they have some priority for no logical reason. Friendships, alliances and acquaintances are made all the time in any venue where more than 2 people gather. Ok ju get to the point. Our suppositions led us to a certain point. Let us say you have known x member for ages and y member for almost as long. You like them both, prolly for very diff reasons. What would your personal reaction be if all of the sudden they were connected? In some cases I have seen many good wishes and in others I have seen the claws drawn and the venom out. Don't read more into this than you see in this blog, it's an interesting question. Could you be happy for someone you "thought" you knew or would you harbour some sort of resentment because you weren't party to what was going on? A very curious and loving to stir the pot, ju

| Sunday, May 17, 2009, 1:50:21 AM- So it came up again | ||||||
It is a never ending story around here bitching about the web crap. I was talking about some of the pics that have made me gag, cringe etc and of course the web crap as a huge issue came up again. I want to address this as a moderator. I really don't give a shit about web crap and neither would you if you had to deal with the pics of minors, xxxxxxxxxx, xxxxxx, real and obvious harm, blood, shit and the list goes on. While web shit rubs all real amateurs the wrong way at least it wont make you physically ill to view it. A too well lit shot of someone with fake boobs is the least of my worries. At least it doesn't make me wanna hurl, ju

| Saturday, May 16, 2009, 9:58:01 PM- It has been a while | ||||||
since I have done a food blog. To be honest I had been feeling very uninspired until I was given a magazine with a bunch of recipes in it yesterday. I didn't use any of them for anything other than inspiration. This is the result with a few more ideas on the back burner. It started out with some thick pork chops that I cut roughly into cubes and then marinated in soy and sweet and sour sauce. Around this time I checked the cupboard and discovered that I only had 2 skewers in there and had to make yet another trip to the store in the rain. Chopped some veggies and strung them on ![]() As they were grilling I brushed them with the left over marinade. The result was super tender meat and a very subtle flavour. ![]() They were served on rice pilaf. Everyone wolfed them down. That little creation has gone in the must make again file. A very full, ju
