I know when you work in a service industry, you get a mixture of good and bad customers. I just get shocked at HOW good and bad they can be!
Yesterday, one of the clerks comes back, frazzled and frustrated. She's been trying to tell this custo that what she wants is impossible. Lady won't listen, and is demanding to speak with a decorator. Yay! I draw the short straw.
So this lady shows me a picture of what she wants. And I immediately recognize it. It was the $10,000 winner of one of the Food Network Cake Challenges. While doing this cake is not, in and of itself impossible.. the fact that she wants it...THE NEXT DAY, is! Here's a pic of the cake she wanted to pick up in a little over 12 hours:
Keep in mind that fucker's 4 ft tall and weighs in the neighborhood of 500 lbs. I *politely* tell this wack job that we require at LEAST two weeks notice on such cakes. "But, they did it on the show in 8 HOURS!" is her reply.
*Facepalm* I, again, very politely explained that, Yes, the DID make that cake in 8 hours. They also had FOUR MONTHS to plan, and do trial runs of it. She insists, and this is where I do lose my patience and get a bit snippy.
"Fine. You want that cake for pickup in 12 hours? It'll be $10,000. We accept all major credit cards."
She flusters and spews and OMG's. Then....LMFAO...she ACTUALLY says this... TO ME : "I want to speak with a decorator that dosn't have any tattoos."
Now...ya'll know I have more than a few tatts. But the only one that's visible is the triple moon on my wrist...HARDLY offensive. I point towards the front door and inform her there's the exit, and please, have a nice day.
*Shakes her head*
As for the good. A clerk brings me the phone earlier tonight, asking if I knew WTF a "Terrible Towel" was. Of course, it being Super Bowl eve, I'm WELL aware, and take the phone. I'm SOOOOOoo glad the guy has a sense of humor. "Sorry sir, I don't think we'll be able to make that cake for you." He's crestfallen, and asks if we can do ANY Steelers themed cake for tomorrow. "Nah... but if you want a cake in the shape of a cheesehead, I can knock that out for ya" He laughed his ass off, and was quite happy when I told him I'd make an exception...just this ONCE. We discussed the game for a bit, nailed down the details of the cake, and I'm getting ready to hand the phone over to the clerk so he can pay. I hear him giggling as he tells his wife the decorator who's doing their cake is rooting for the Packers. Then he asks, in all seriousness.. "So...you're not going to spit in the cake or anything, are you?"
"Nah...I'll take pity on ya, since it's prolly gonna be the only sweet thing ya get tomorrow anyway, losing and all"
I did the cake, it turned out really cute. but on the bottom of the box, where they won't see it till they take the cake out of the box... I drew the GB logo and wrote GO PACKERS! =P
